Introduction to the Interdisciplinary Program
According to the Interdisciplinary Program Implementation Regulations of National Chiao Tung University, the department encourages students to engage in interdisciplinary learning in order to deepen their cross-disciplinary knowledge and develop a second area of expertise. This program allows students to complete an interdisciplinary program without increasing their graduation credit requirements, or with only a minimal increase.
An interdisciplinary program refers to a set of modular courses proposed by departments, institutes, or colleges at National Chiao Tung University. These modules are designed to include the fundamental and core knowledge of the respective field. In principle, the total number of credits required for the program is 30 credits, with a minimum of 28 credits and a maximum of 32 credits.
Students enrolled in an interdisciplinary program are required to complete module courses from both their home department and the department or college offering the second area of specialization. Upon completion, the second specialization module will be indicated on the student’s diploma as an “Interdisciplinary Specialization.”
If students later find that the interdisciplinary program does not suit their interests, they may apply to withdraw from the program and return to the original academic regulations of their home department, graduating with the degree of their original major.
